Ep 230 - World-leading happiness expert: why getting your needs met is critical to your children's happiness with Dr. Rick Hanson
Hey everyone, welcome to this episode of the Motherkind podcast, the show that's going to help you navigate the massive challenges of life as a modern mother with more confidence, clarity and self-awareness.
This week's episode is with one of our favourite guests, Dr. Rick Hanson. He is a world-leading psychologist and leading expert on happiness, relationships and motherhood.
His latest book Making great relationships is brilliant. He wrote his first book, Mother Nurture, over 20 years ago after seeing the emotional and physical toll of motherhood on his wife and the lack of support and recognition from society.
Dr Rick and I spoke on the podcast a year ago about the importance of mothers and, yet, how undervalued we are. It had a massive impact on me and I know you too as it was one of our most popular episodes from last year.
In this episode Dr Rick and I talk about:
-
Our needs as mothers and why it is so hard to get our needs met and how to do that
-
Why you might not think your needs matter and how to change that
-
How to advocate for your own needs in your family and why that is the most important thing we can do
-
Communication within relationships and families
-
A communication method to resolve almost any conflict in your family
If you haven’t listened to my first episode with Dr Rick, I suggest you give it a list after this one. You can find it here.
