This week’s guest is Dr. Abigail Gewirtz. A child psychologist and leading expert on families under stress. I felt called to get her on the show as soon as possible in the midst of Covid 19 and the big issues that are confronting society. And I’m grateful she found the time to speak with me.
Dr. Gerwitz is most interested in answering two questions:
-
How do families cope when stressful events hit?
-
How can parents manage their own worries in order to help their children be resilient in the face of hard times?
The problem is, most children can’t put these issues in perspective, and parents, often anxious themselves, can have a hard time talking to their kids without making it worse. Her book When the World Seems Like a Scary Place offers a clear and practical guide to having the kinds of tough conversations with your kids that really help.
Take a moment and ask them to tell you what they are feeling.

Think of this episode as a workshop. Dr. Gewirtz delivered so much insight and knowledge about how we as parents can best support our children in even the most difficult of times. Considering the past year, it was a privilege to have her on the show. From my heart, I hope this episode makes you feel more empowered as a parent.
As always, we continue the conversation over on Instagram, so come and join us there.
